Director of Health and Safety

Coldstream Helicopters Ltd. is a leading provider of specialized helicopter services, operating a diverse fleet of approximately 15 helicopters that includes Airbus AS332, Airbus AS350B2 and Bell 212 helicopters. Coldstream is headquartered at the Kelowna, BC airport with various bases and is active in the firefighting, emergency services, heli-skiing, powerline and construction sectors. Coldstream's commitment to safety, reliability, and excellence in service is paramount. Coldstream is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Health and Safety to join our team and ensure the highest standards of safety across all our operations.

Coldstream is seeking to fill the permanent, full-time position of Director of Health and Safety. Reporting to the Accountable Executive, this position will be responsible for refining, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health and safety programs that comply with provincial, federal, and international regulations, including Transport Canada requirements. Job Description – Director of Health and Safety Health and Safety Program Management:

  • Refine, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with workers’ compensation, Canada Labour Code and Transport Canada regulations.

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective

    actions.

    Safety Management System (SMS):

  • Manage and administer the Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with Transport Canada requirements.

  • Ensure continuous improvement of the SMS through regular reviews and updates.

  • Provide training and support to employees on SMS processes and requirements.

Training and Development:

  • Design and deliver induction training programs for new employees, covering all aspects of health and safety.

  • Develop and conduct ongoing safety training sessions, including first aid, emergency response, and specific job-related safety protocols.

  • Ensure all employees are adequately trained and competent in their roles with respect to health and safety.

    Risk Management:

  • Identify potential hazards and assess risks associated with helicopter operations and maintenance activities.

  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to reduce workplace injuries and accidents.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices and regulatory changes. Leadership and Communication:

  • Lead and mentor the health and safety team, fostering a collaborative and safety-conscious work environment.

  • Communicate health and safety policies and procedures effectively to all levels of the organization.

  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, insurance providers, and other external stakeholders as required. Emergency Preparedness:

  • Refine and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.

  • Conduct regular emergency drills and training exercises.

  • Ensure all emergency equipment is properly maintained and readily accessible.

    Qualifications:

  • Operational experience may be used in place of educational requirements.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the aviation or aerospace industry.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of provincial and federal health and safety regulations, including WorkSafeBC and other provincial workers’ compensation programs, Canada Labour Code, and Transport Canada requirements.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and drive a safety culture.

  • Knowledge of change management principles and methodologies an asset.

  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs.

  • Hold a valid Driver’s license and Passport as travel is required.

  • Level 3 First Aid, or equivalent.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace is an asset.Ability to quickly adapt to new operational software.

 

 

Bell 212 HP Heliski and Longline Pilots

Pilots will have a minimum of 5000 hrs total time with a minimum of 3 yrs heliski experience on Bell Mediums. Production Longline also required with a minimum of 2000 hrs of longline experience. Candidates with previous Powerline Construction, Seismic Experience and have an FAA license will also be considered an asset. 

Bell 212 and AS 332L/L1 Super Puma Engineers

Engineers must have minimum previous experience on type. Touring positions available as noted above. We are also looking for an Avionics technician for the AS332 program. All candidates must be hold Transport Canada M or E License or FAA  A&P.
